Voice over IP Telephones

Internet telephony refers to communications services, such as voice, facsimile, and voice-messaging applications, that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN). So, VoIP, (Voice over Internet Protocol), allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network over a data network like the Internet.

VoIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the Internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a VoIP call using a phone with an adapter or a VoIP phone, you will hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have.

VoIP is a revolutionary technology that has the potential to completely rework the world's phone systems. Acorn Media are proud to be able to give the opportunity to provide our customers with VoIP in association with Fused Web Calls.

IP Phones

Voice over IP telephone

These specialised phones look just like normal phones with a handset, cradle and buttons. But instead of having the standard RJ-11 phone connectors, IP phones have an RJ-45 Ethernet connector. IP phones connect directly to your router and have all the hardware and software necessary right onboard to handle the IP call. Contact us today for advice on phones suitable for you and cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make 999 calls?

Yes. Customers can make a 999 emergency telephone call through the Mywebcalls VoIP service. We do NOT provide caller location information to the emergency services. When your call is answered by the emergency services they will not receive your phone number and will not know the address you are calling from; you must therefore provide the relevant information in order to help the operator determine where to route your call.

What if there is a power cut or my Internet service is down?

The Mywebcalls VoIP service will NOT work in the event of an internet connection or electrical power outage. This will mean that the ability to make calls and dial 999 emergency services will not be possible. Mywebcalls can make available upon request appropriate labels for your equipment which indicates any dependence on home power supply.

Can I make calls to directory assistance numbers (118xxx) with Mywebcalls?

Yes. You can make calls to directory enquiry numbers beginning with 118 through the Mywebcalls VoIP service. These will be charged at a premium rate.

Can I make calls to operator assistance numbers (1xx) with Mywebcalls?

Mywebcalls do not support operator assistance calls to numbers such as 100 or 150. However, access to operator assistance information can be found online or by dialling from a standard landline.

Are you able to request that my number is added to the telephone phone book (directory listings)?

Yes as long as the number has been supplied by Mywebcalls.

Do I receive itemisation of my telephone calls?

Mywebcalls can provide you with itemised call information upon request.

Are there any restrictions on number ranges or country codes?

Customers are unable to make telephone calls to satellite telephone services.

Can I keep my telephone number if I move my services away from Mywebcalls?

No, we don’t offer the ability to keep/port your number to a new supplier.

Can I make calls to premium rate numbers?

Yes. Mywebcalls however can provide you with the option to bar premium rate calling upon request.

Can you provide sticker labels for my equipment?

Mywebcalls can make available labels for your equipment explaining service limitations and any dependence on home power supply and the effect this can have on making 999 calls.
